About the band
The Zipperheadz was a band that existed in the early 90’s that was started in the late 80’s by James E. Kupperian, III (Synth, Electronics) and Kyle Phillips (Guitar). The lineup that was to be known as The Zipperheadz became official when Tim Cooper-Vinson(Drums) joined the band in 1989.
While having spent several years practicing together and writing original songs, they never managed to perform anywhere in public. The band broke up at the end of 1995 while working on a set list in preperation to start gigging.
The band practiced in a studio with access to recording equipment and got to lay down many hours of tracks on a TASCAM-234 4 track tape deck. Many of the takes have failed experimental parts, but some of the takes have a really good groove where the band is performing at it’s best.
With the recent advances in digital audio technology, it’s now possible to use all those recordings to create a full song free of the little experiments gone bad in the original recordings. Currently, the recordings are in the process of being transferred to digital so they can be mastered with software that was unavailble at the time the music was recorded.
The website is an attempt to chronicle the process of transferring the original tapes to digital as well as document the recordings.
